FiRST POST

I've created this blog as a way for family to see what I've been up to, since I probably cannot stay in contact as much as we both like. I can get on here anytime of the day or night and update for ya'll to read whenever you get the urge. I believe you can subscribe and have an email sent to you whenever I update. Feel free to copy the link and share it with whomever you'd like because I don't have a lot of family email addresses.

I am starting week 4 of my first nursing semester and it has been quite a treat! I have NEVER enjoyed school so much. It's a lot different than any other semester, here's a preview of my classes:

Monday: NO CLASS!

Tuesday: Interpersonal Communications 400-630
This class is really pretty fun and interesting. 50% of class points is based on participation so we have a lot of interactions and discussions.

Wednesdays: Clinicals 600am-430pm
This is my favorite day because it's all hands-on activities. My clinical instructor is really nice her name is Cindy and she is an RN working on her Masters. I have 5 other students in my group: Crystal, Lindsey, Meghan, Kim, and Michelle. Crystal is my partner and she's really fun. Its really a great thing that they separate us into these little groups because we always get to have time to practice the skills we are working on. So far we have done Injections, IV insertions, Physical Assessment, Medication Administration, and Documentation.

Thursdays: Pharmacology 830-1130, Nursing Fundamentals 1230-330
Pharmacology is rumored to be the hardest first semester class and I can understand why. Its a lot of memorizing! Drugs and their side effects mostly. Our teachers rotate every 4 weeks too which is also going to be kind of different during test times because it will be a different teaching style and testing style, but that may be a good thing too.
Fundamentals is an easy A... lots of discussion on the different roles of a Nurse. We have to cover each little bit and piece such as Patient Education, Advocacy, Ethics, Legal Issues, Communication, etc.

Fridays: Math 1030-1130.. Scheduled Practice Time.. Anytime all Day
Nurse Math is pretty much calculating doses. We use Dimensional Analysis which I learned in 11th grade in Chemistry so it comes pretty natural to me. We have to pass a math test at the end of this semester so this class just keeps us refreshed.
We have to schedule an hour of practice time with our clinical instructor and its usually with one or two other students which is AWESOME because there is plenty of time to go over things and ask questions about any class. I think I learn the most during this hour.

So those are just the basics of each of my classes...
